Water spinach, also known as kangkung, is a semi-aquatic tropical plant grown as a vegetable for its tender shoots, botanically named Ipomoea aquatica. Generally believed to have been first domesticated in Southeast Asia, it is widely cultivated across Southeast Asia, East Asia and South Asia, growing abundantly near waterways with little to no care.
