A papadam, also spelled papad, papadum, poppadom, or papar, is a snack that originated in the Indian subcontinent, made from a dough typically based on black gram bean flour, though lentil, chickpea, rice, tapioca, millet, or potato flour are also used. It is either deep-fried or cooked with dry heat by flipping it over an open flame until crunchy, and is typically served as an accompaniment to a meal or as an appetizer in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and the Caribbean, often paired with chutneys or topped with onions and chili peppers.
