Barbecue sandwich

Sandwiches

A barbecue sandwich is a sandwich built around barbecued meat, typically served on a bun or Texas toast, with strong regional variation across the United States, particularly the South, and parts of Asia. Meats such as pork, beef, chicken, sausage, turkey or ribs are sliced, chopped or pulled and combined with barbecue sauce, sometimes slow-smoked before assembly, and the sandwich is often topped with coleslaw, pickles or onions. Regional styles range widely, from a ground beef version in Pennsylvania to smoked brisket in Texas to chicken with white sauce in Alabama, each shaped by local barbecue traditions.
