Nasi jamblang

Rice, Grain and Starch Dishes

Nasi jamblang is a typical food of Cirebon in West Java, Indonesia, known in Javanese as sega jamblang. The name comes from Jamblang, the area to the west of the city of Cirebon where food vendors first sold the dish. Its most characteristic feature is that the rice is packed in teak leaves, and it is served buffet-style, so that each diner chooses side dishes to go with the rice. The dishes on offer usually include chili fries, tofu, vegetables, stews of lung, liver or meat, satay, potatoes, fried scrambled eggs, stewed chili fish, salted fish and tempeh. It is described as a traditional Cirebonese food that was originally served to the forced labourers who built the Great Post Road from Anyer to Panarukan, which passes through Cirebon Regency, during the Dutch colonial era. The source article gives no date for the dish itself.
