Nasi paprik, also written nasi pad prik, is a Malaysian rice dish. The rice may be plain or fried and is served together with a sweet and spicy sauce that commonly holds chunks of meat and vegetables. A version called nasi goreng pad prik refers specifically to the fried rice, where the sauce is mixed in during cooking. The name joins the Malay word nasi, meaning rice, to the Thai phrase pad prik, in which pad means stir-fry and prik means chili. The dish can be considered Malay-style Thai cooking: it is mainly found in Malaysia but is prepared with Thai ingredients and cooking principles. It is related to Thai stir-fries such as nuea phat phrik and phat phrik khing and to other fried rice dishes.
