Where does the name bandeja paisa come from?
One published account says Cotelco delegates named it in Bogotá in 1950.
According to an article from Radio Nacional de Colombia, the name was coined in Bogotá in 1950 at a meeting of Cotelco, the Colombian hotel and tourism association. Its delegates were putting together a manual of typical Colombian dishes and found that Antioquia had no typical dish yet, only one called seco, so they decided to call it bandeja paisa. This is one published account of the naming.
