A sausage sizzle is a community event, originating in Australia or New Zealand, in which grilled or barbecued sausages are served in sliced bread with grilled onions and condiments such as tomato sauce, barbecue sauce or mustard. The term came into common use in the 1980s and refers both to the barbecuing event and, especially in Western Australia, to the sausage itself.
