Shoti

Breads, Flatbreads and Savory Pastries

Shotis puri, or simply shoti, is a type of traditional Georgian bread made of white flour and shaped like a canoe. It is baked in a specific type of bakery called a tone or torne/turne, a word cognate with tandoor, and gets its distinctive shape from long strands of dough stuck to the inside walls of the traditional round, well shaped brick or clay oven. Though served like any other bread, shoti tends to be especially popular for celebrations such as Easter, Christmas, New Year's Day, birthdays and weddings.
