Blackberry

The blackberry is an edible fruit produced by many species in the genus Rubus, part of the rose family, along with hybrids among those species and hybrids between related subgenera; the taxonomy of blackberries has historically been confused by extensive hybridization and a form of asexual seed production, so that many species have been grouped together and treated as species aggregates. Blackberry production is abundant, with annual yields as high as 20,000 pounds per acre possible, making the plant commercially attractive, though one variety, the Himalayan or Armenian blackberry, is considered a noxious, invasive weed across much of the Pacific Northwest of Canada and the United States.
