Carp

The common carp is a freshwater fish native to the slow-moving rivers and eutrophic lakes of Europe and Asia, and the namesake of the entire Cyprinidae family. It has been introduced to freshwater systems on every continent except Antarctica, where in many places its bottom-feeding habits have made it a significant invasive species, listed among the world's 100 worst invaders. Carp is nonetheless a major food fish: China alone farms more carp by weight than the rest of the world farms trout and salmon combined, and whole fried carp or carp fish soup is a traditional Christmas Eve dish across Central Europe, including Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland and Austria.
