Grape seed is the seed found inside grapes, produced in large volume as a byproduct of winemaking, since roughly ninety percent of grapes grown worldwide are used for wine. The seeds are pressed to produce grape seed oil, a light-tasting oil high in polyunsaturated fat with a moderately high smoke point of around 216 degrees Celsius, making it usable for moderate-heat cooking as well as salad dressings and mayonnaise. Grape seed oil production is concentrated in wine-growing regions around the Mediterranean, and the seeds and their extracts are also used in cosmetics and skincare products.
