Loquat

Loquat is the fruit of Eriobotrya japonica, an evergreen tree native to south-central China despite its Japanese-derived common name, and now cultivated in warm climates worldwide. The small, orange to yellow fruit grows in clusters and has a sweet, slightly tart flavor with a texture often compared to a cross between a plum and a citrus fruit, containing several large glossy brown seeds. Loquats are eaten fresh, and also made into jams, jellies and a traditional Chinese cough syrup called pipa gao.
