Mango

A mango is an edible stone fruit produced by the tropical tree Mangifera indica, which originated in the northeastern part of South Asia, in what is now Bangladesh, northeastern India and Myanmar. The species has been cultivated across South and Southeast Asia since ancient times, producing two modern cultivar lineages known as the Indian and Southeast Asian types, and there are several hundred cultivars worldwide that vary in size, shape, sweetness and the color of their skin and flesh, which may be pale yellow, gold, green or orange. Other species in the genus Mangifera also produce edible fruit called mangoes, most found in the Malesian ecoregion, and the mango is the national fruit of India, Pakistan and the Philippines, while the mango tree is the national tree of Bangladesh.
