Mangosteen is the fruit of Garcinia mangostana, a slow-growing tropical tree native to Southeast Asia. The fruit has a thick, deep purple rind enclosing a cluster of white, segmented flesh, similar in shape to a peeled garlic bulb, with a sweet and tangy flavor often described as a blend of peach, lychee and citrus. Long called the queen of fruits in much of Southeast Asia, it is eaten fresh, chilled, and used in desserts and preserves.
