Marula oil is extracted from the kernels of the fruit of the marula tree, Sclerocarya birrea, native to southern Africa. It is traditionally used in food as a cooking oil and meat preservative, alongside wider use in cosmetics and leather treatment; in Namibia the marula fruit itself is also made into juice and jam.
