MCT Oil

Fats and Oils

MCT oil, short for medium-chain triglyceride oil, is a processed cooking and supplement oil made by fractionating coconut oil or palm kernel oil to concentrate specific medium-chain fatty acids, chiefly caprylic acid and capric acid. These medium-chain fats are absorbed and metabolized by the body differently from the longer-chain fats found in most dietary oils, a property that has made MCT oil popular in ketogenic and sports nutrition circles, often stirred into coffee or smoothies. The oil itself is flavorless and liquid at room temperature, distinguishing it from the solid whole coconut oil it is typically derived from.
