Mulberries are the fruit of trees in the genus Morus, most commonly the white mulberry, native to China, and the black mulberry, native to western Asia. The fruit resembles an elongated blackberry made up of many small individual drupelets fused together, ranging in color from white or pale pink to deep purple or black depending on the species and ripeness. Mulberries are eaten fresh, dried, or made into jams, syrups and wines, and white mulberry leaves are also the primary food of silkworms, tying the fruit's cultivation history closely to silk production across Asia.
