Nectarine

The nectarine is a smooth-skinned variety of peach, Prunus persica var. nucipersica, differing from the fuzzy-skinned peach by a single recessive gene controlling skin texture rather than by species. Nectarines and peaches are genetically so close that either can appear on the same tree as a bud sport, and a peach pit can occasionally produce a nectarine tree. The fruit is a juicy stone fruit with yellow or white flesh, sold in both freestone and clingstone forms, eaten fresh, sliced into salads and desserts, or grilled and roasted to concentrate its sweetness.
