Salmon

Salmon are any of several commercially important species of fish from the genera Salmo and Oncorhynchus, native to tributaries of the North Atlantic and North Pacific basins respectively; salmon is a common name for this group rather than a single scientific name, and closely related fish in the same family include trout, char, grayling, whitefish and taimen, all coldwater fish of subarctic and cooler temperate regions. Salmon are typically anadromous, hatching in the shallow gravel beds of freshwater headstreams, spending their juvenile years in rivers, lakes and freshwater wetlands, then migrating to the ocean as adults to live as sea fish before returning to their freshwater birthplace to reproduce.
