Tea Seed Oil

Fats and Oils

Tea seed oil, also called camellia oil, is an edible oil pressed from the seeds of Camellia oleifera or related camellia species, valued for its light texture, mild flavor and high oleic acid content. It is a primary cooking oil across mountainous regions of southern China, particularly Hunan province, and in Japan a related oil from Camellia japonica is used both in cooking and traditionally in hair and skin care. Tea seed oil should not be confused with tea tree oil, an unrelated, inedible essential oil extracted from the leaves of a different plant, Melaleuca alternifolia, and used only for medicinal and cosmetic purposes.
