Ground beef is beef that has been mechanically minced into small pieces, sold either as a single cut or, more commonly, as a blend of trimmings from multiple cuts of beef. It is categorized commercially by its fat-to-lean ratio, typically ranging from about seventy percent lean to ninety-five percent lean, which determines its suitability for dishes such as hamburgers, meatloaf, meatballs and ground beef based sauces like Bolognese. Ground beef is one of the most widely consumed forms of beef worldwide because of its versatility, relatively low cost and short cooking time.
