Jackfruit seed is the seed of the jackfruit, Artocarpus heterophyllus, a large tree fruit native to South and Southeast Asia. Seeds from ripe fruit are edible once cooked, with a milky, sweet taste often compared to Brazil nuts and a flavor compared to chestnuts when roasted; they are boiled, baked or roasted and eaten as snacks or in desserts. In Java the boiled or roasted seeds are seasoned with salt as a snack, in India they are used in curries such as a traditional lentil and vegetable mix, and in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines they are commonly boiled and eaten with salt.
