Hazelnut

The hazelnut is the fruit of the hazel tree, including any nut from species in the genus Corylus, especially Corylus avellana, and is also known as the cobnut or filbert depending on species. Hazelnuts are used as a snack food, in baking and desserts, and in breakfast cereals such as muesli, and in confectionery they are used to make praline and, combined with chocolate, chocolate truffles and spreads such as Nutella; hazelnut oil, pressed from the nuts, is strongly flavored and high in monounsaturated fat, used as a cooking oil and salad dressing. In 2023, Turkey was the world's largest producer of hazelnuts, accounting for 57.7 percent of total production.
