Kyaraben

Kyaraben, or charaben, is a style of elaborately decorated Japanese bento box in which the food is arranged to resemble animals, plants or characters from popular media, such as Pikachu or Totoro. It developed in Japan beginning in the 1990s as a way for parents, especially mothers, to make packed lunches more appealing to children and encourage a wider range of eating habits. It has since grown into a wider cultural practice, with dedicated contests held for the most elaborate examples.
