Lekkerbekje is a Dutch fried fish dish consisting of fish coated in batter and deep fried, often described as the Dutch counterpart to fish and chips even though it is not always served with chips. It traditionally used whiting, though today it is commonly made with white fish such as cod, pangasius or pollock, and it is usually served with tartar sauce. Its name is a diminutive form meaning something like gourmand or food lover, and while its exact origin is uncertain, it may date to the town of IJmuiden.
