Beer can chicken

Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes

Beer can chicken is a barbecued whole chicken dish cooked by an indirect grilling method: a partially filled can of beer is inserted into the bird cavity, and the chicken is stood upright on the can with its legs pointing down, then slow cooked over indirect heat on a charcoal or gas grill. The technique is meant to add moisture to the meat, with some cooks believing that steam rising from the beer inside the cavity helps cook the chicken from the inside while adding flavor, although the actual effectiveness of that mechanism is debated.
