Fårikål is a traditional Norwegian dish and the country's national dish, made from pieces of mutton with the bone left in, cooked for several hours in a casserole with cabbage, whole black peppercorns and occasionally a small amount of wheat flour to thicken the liquid. It is traditionally served with boiled potatoes still in their skins. The dish is typically prepared in early autumn, when more than seventy percent of the Norwegian population reports eating it at least once during that period.
