Kaya Toast

Breads, Flatbreads and Savory Pastries

Kaya toast is a dish of two slices of toast with butter and kaya, a coconut jam, commonly served with kopi and soft-boiled eggs. It is believed to have been created by Hainanese immigrants to the Straits Settlements in the nineteenth century while serving on British ships at the Port of Singapore, and it became integrated into coffeeshop culture, now widely available at kopitiams, hawker centres, food courts, and Singaporean cafe chains such as Ya Kun Kaya Toast, Killiney Kopitiam, and Toast Box.
