Peixinhos da horta

Peixinhos da horta is a traditional dish in Portuguese cuisine whose name translates literally as little fish from the vegetable garden, since the battered, fried green beans it is made from resemble small pieces of colorful fish. It was introduced to Japan in the sixteenth century by the Portuguese sailors Antonio da Mota and Francisco Zeimoto, and the dish is credited with giving rise to tempura, the now classic Japanese preparation.
