Pigs in blankets

Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes

Pigs in blankets, also called kilted sausages, is a dish of the United Kingdom and Ireland consisting of small pork chipolata sausages wrapped in streaky bacon, then pan-fried, baked or a combination of both; modern versions may use chorizo or chicken sausage or flavored bacon. It is a seasonal dish, rarely served commercially outside Christmas, and functions as a traditional accompaniment to Christmas roast dinners, particularly turkey; December 12 was declared National Pigs in Blankets Day in 2013. It differs from the American dish of the same name, which wraps sausages in bread or pastry dough rather than bacon.
