A waffle is a dish made from usually leavened batter or dough that is cooked between two patterned plates, giving it a characteristic shape and surface impression. Waffle recipes and iron patterns vary widely, and waffles are eaten worldwide, with Belgium alone home to more than a dozen regional varieties. They may be prepared fresh or reheated from commercially produced versions sold fresh or frozen.
