Corn dog

A corn dog is a hot dog on a stick coated in a thick layer of cornmeal batter and deep fried, a dish that originated in the United States and remains a staple of American state fairs and carnivals. Its origin is disputed: a 1929 U.S. patent described sausages dipped in batter and deep fried in oil, and German immigrant sausage makers in Texas are credited with an early version, while vendors including the Fletcher family at the State Fair of Texas, Pronto Pup of Oregon, and the Cozy Dog Drive-In in Illinois each claim to have popularized versions of it between the late 1930s and 1946.
