Murukku

Murukku is a savory, crunchy snack from the Indian subcontinent, especially common in the South Indian states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. It is made from a dough of rice flour and urad dal flour mixed with water, salt, chili powder, asafoetida and sesame or cumin seeds, which is then shaped into a spiral or coil by hand or with a mold and deep fried in vegetable oil. Its Tamil name, muruku, literally means twisting, describing the shape of the finished snack.
