Sate lilit is a satay variant originating from Balinese cuisine in Indonesia, made from minced pork, fish, chicken, beef or even turtle meat mixed with grated coconut, thick coconut milk, lemon juice, shallots and pepper. The spiced minced meat is wound around a flat, wide bamboo, sugar cane or lemongrass stick rather than skewered narrow and sharp like other satay, which lets the meat stick and settle before it is grilled over charcoal. Its name, lilit, means to wrap around in Balinese and Indonesian, describing how the meat is prepared.
