Mashed Potato

Mashed potato, colloquially called mash in British English, is a dish made by mashing boiled or steamed potatoes, usually with added milk, butter, salt, and pepper, and is generally served as a side dish to meat or vegetables. A more roughly mashed version is sometimes called smashed potatoes, and dehydrated instant or frozen versions are also commercially available. Mashed potato is also used as an ingredient in other dishes, such as dumplings and gnocchi, and the dish is associated with the United Kingdom.
