Buttermilk koldskål

Buttermilk koldskål is a sweet, cold Danish dairy beverage or dessert made from buttermilk combined with ingredients such as eggs, sugar, yogurt or similar dairy products, vanilla, and sometimes lemon. It emerged after buttermilk became widely available in Denmark in the early 1900s, following earlier beer-based versions recorded in the 18th century, and became a staple of Danish households by the 20th century. It is traditionally served chilled as a summer dessert or snack, accompanied by crisp biscuits such as kammerjunkere or tvebakker and sometimes garnished with strawberries or bananas; demand for it can double during warm weather.
