Koshary

Rice, Grain and Starch Dishes

Koshary, also spelled kushari or koshari, is Egypt's national dish and a widely popular street food, made by mixing pasta, Egyptian-style fried rice, vermicelli, and brown lentils, then topping the mixture with chickpeas, a garlicky tomato sauce, garlic vinegar, and crispy fried onions, with garlic vinegar and hot sauce added as optional extras. It is served warm or hot as a main course, and in 2025 it was recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage.
