Macaroni pie, sometimes called macaroni cheese pie, is a baked dish based on macaroni and cheese, made from elbow macaroni, cheese and milk along with butter, flour and seasoning, with some recipes adding onion or bread crumbs. Some regional versions, particularly in Scotland, bake the mixture inside a pastry crust, while others leave it out, and the finished dish is typically cut into wedges for serving; lighter versions substitute reduced fat cheese and skim milk.
