Evidence of cured ham production reaches back to the Etruscan civilization in the sixth and fifth centuries BC, and the Roman writer Cato the Elder described ham curing methods around 160 BC, with an import trade in ham from Gaul recorded in Roman sources. The modern English word traces to an Old English term for the hollow or bend of the knee, from a Germanic root meaning crooked, and came to denote specifically the cut from a pig's hind leg by around the fifteenth century; ham is produced worldwide today, with many regions holding their own protected geographical designations.HamConnectionsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)HamFilter Results11 entriesDish FamilyAllAmerican Regional Sandwiches (2)Asian and Middle Eastern Sandwiches (1)East Asian Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (1)European Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (4)European Sandwiches (1)Latin American and Caribbean Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (1)North American Breads and Pastries (1)CuisineAllArgentine Cuisine (1)Canadian Cuisine (1)French Cuisine (1)German Cuisine (1)Italian Cuisine (1)Korean Cuisine (2)Louisiana Creole Cuisine (1)Portuguese Cuisine (1)Spanish Cuisine (1)Era (Origin Period)All1920 (1)1929 (1)1950 (1)1953 (1)TraditionAllBread Baking (1)Street Food Culture (1)Tapas Culture (1)Format/TypeAllAmerican Regional Sandwiches (2)Asian and Middle Eastern Sandwiches (1)East Asian Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (1)European Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (4)European Sandwiches (1)Latin American and Caribbean Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (1)North American Breads and Pastries (1)CourseAllMain Course (1)Side Dish (1)Snack or Street Food (1)Dietary SuitabilityAllContains Dairy or Egg (1)Contains Meat or Poultry (4)Origin RegionAllArgentina (1)Canada (1)France (3)Germany (1)Portugal (1)South Korea (2)United States (3)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 11BauernfrühstückHamBudae JjigaeHamCordon bleuHamCroquetteHamFrancesinhaHamGilgeori toastHamHam and EggsHamHawaiian PizzaHamMuffulettaHamPo' BoyHamRevuelto GramajoHamConnectionsExpresses TraditionSalt Curing, Smoking and Drying, Food Traditions Well-attested Used ByBauernfrühstück, Dishes Well-attested Source Wikipedia, BauernfrühstückBudae Jjigae, Dishes Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Budae-jjigaeCordon bleu, Dishes Well-attested Source Cordon bleu (Wikipedia)Croquette, Dishes Well-attested Source Croquette (Wikipedia)Francesinha, Dishes Well-attested Source Francesinha - WikipediaGerman Cuisine, Cuisines Well-attested Gilgeori toast, Dishes Well-attested Source Gilgeori toast (Wikipedia)Ham and Eggs, Dishes Well-attested Source Ham and eggs (Wikipedia)Hawaiian Pizza, Dishes Well-attested Source Hawaiian pizza (Wikipedia)Muffuletta, Dishes Well-attested Source Muffuletta (Wikipedia)Po' Boy, Dishes Well-attested Source Po' boy - WikipediaRevuelto Gramajo, Dishes Well-attested Source Revuelto Gramajo (Wikipedia)SourcesWikidata: HamWikidata Q170486, class allow-list match (w-wdresolver-0926)View the SourceFrancesinha - WikipediaUsed By: Francesinha, Infobox main_ingredient field: bread, ham, linguiça, fresh sausage (chipolata), steak or roast meat, cheese, spiced tomato-and-beer sauceView the SourceWikipedia: Budae-jjigaeUsed By: Budae Jjigae, Infobox main_ingredient field: Ham, sausage, Spam, baked beans, kimchi, instant noodles, gochujang, American cheeseView the SourceWikipedia, BauernfrühstückUsed By: Bauernfrühstück, Infobox main_ingredient field: Fried potatoes, eggs, cream, parsley, onions, bacon or hamView the SourceCroquette (Wikipedia)Used By: Croquette, Infobox main_ingredient field: Ground meat, shellfish, fish, ham, cheese, mashed potatoes, vegetables, béchamel or brown sauceView the SourceHawaiian pizza (Wikipedia)Used By: Hawaiian Pizza, Infobox main_ingredient field: Pineapple, tomato sauce, mozzarella, ham or baconView the SourceMuffuletta (Wikipedia)Used By: Muffuletta, Infobox food/dish main_ingredient fieldView the SourceRevuelto Gramajo (Wikipedia)Used By: Revuelto Gramajo, lead paragraphQuote, Used By: Revuelto Gramajo, lead paragraphRevuelto Gramajo (English: Gramajo scramble) is a common hash dish in Argentine cuisine consisting of fried julienned potatoes, ham and eggs.View the SourceGilgeori toast (Wikipedia)Used By: Gilgeori toast, lead paragraphQuote, Used By: Gilgeori toast, lead paragraphIt consists of a fried egg (typically in a square shape), thinly sliced cabbage, ham, and cheese between two pieces of toast.View the SourcePo' boy - WikipediaUsed By: Po' Boy, Lead sectionQuote, Used By: Po' Boy, Lead sectionconsists of a filling, which is usually roast beef, ham, or fried seafood such as shrimp, crawfish, fish, oysters, or crab on a New Orleans French bread roll cutView the SourceCordon bleu (Wikipedia)Used By: Cordon bleu, Lead sectionQuote, Used By: Cordon bleu, Lead sectiona thin cutlet of meat (typically veal, chicken, or pork) that is pounded thin, stuffed with ham and cheeseView the SourceHam and eggs (Wikipedia)Used By: Ham and Eggs, Lead paragraphQuote, Used By: Ham and Eggs, Lead paragraphHam and eggs is a dish consisting of ham served with eggs, usually as a hot breakfast dish.View the SourceComments (0)No comments yet.
