Pizzelle are Italian waffle cookies made from flour, eggs, sugar, butter or vegetable oil, and a flavoring, usually anise or anisette, though vanilla or lemon zest are also used. They are also known by regional names such as ferratelle, nevole or catarrette. Pizzelle originate in the Abruzzo region of Italy and are also made in Lazio and Molise; Italy's Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests names them a prodotto agroalimentare tradizionale abruzzese, a traditional agri-food product of Abruzzo.
