Soup is a primarily liquid food, generally served warm or hot though sometimes served chilled, made by cooking or combining meat or vegetables with stock, milk, or water. It is the main generic term for liquid savory dishes, a category that according to the Oxford Companion to Food also includes broth, bisque, consomme and potage among others.
