Struffoli

Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes

Struffoli, also known as honey balls, is a Neapolitan dish of deep-fried balls of sweet dough about the size of marbles, crunchy outside and light inside. The balls are mixed with honey and other sweet ingredients and formed into mounds or rings, traditionally flavoured with diavulilli, cinnamon and bits of orange rind; the dish is known regionally as scalilli in Calabria and cicerchiata in Abruzzo, and is often served at Christmas.
