Stuffed mushrooms

Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes

Stuffed mushrooms is a dish made by washing mushrooms, removing their stems, and filling the caps with a mixture that often includes bread crumbs, spinach, tomato, cheese, onion, garlic, herbs such as basil, chives, tarragon, or parsley, and sometimes meats such as sausage or pork along with egg, spices, salt, and pepper; the chopped stems are often used in the filling itself. The filled caps are typically baked or broiled on a pan or dish, though they can also be cooked on skewers or a rotisserie, and they shrink somewhat during baking. The finished dish can be served hot, at room temperature, or cold, and functions variously as an hors d'oeuvre, a side dish, or a snack.
