Ben oil is pressed from the seeds of Moringa oleifera, a tree also known as the horseradish tree, ben oil tree or drumstick tree, with seeds yielding roughly 22 to 38 percent oil. It is noted for an unusually long shelf life and a mild, pleasant taste, and its name comes from its behenic acid content. It has been used for thousands of years as a perfume base and is also valued as a salad oil, burning with a clear, smokeless light and yielding a good soap.
