Jackfruit

Jackfruit is the fruit of Artocarpus heterophyllus, a tree native to the rainforests of South Asia, and is the largest fruit produced by any tree, with mature specimens weighing up to about 55 kilograms. The fruit has a thick, bumpy green-to-yellow rind enclosing large bulbs of flesh around each seed. Ripe jackfruit bulbs are sweet and eaten as a fruit or in desserts, while unripe green jackfruit has a neutral, fibrous, shreddable texture that has made it a popular savory meat substitute in South and Southeast Asian cooking and, more recently, in plant-based Western dishes.
