Peanut Oil

Peanut oil, also called groundnut oil or arachis oil, is a vegetable oil derived from peanuts, with unrefined versions carrying a stronger peanut flavor and refined versions a milder one, and a comparatively high smoke point of about 450 degrees Fahrenheit for the refined form, which suits it to high heat cooking such as frying, while the unrefined form is more often used as a flavoring in dressings and marinades, similar to sesame oil. Global production reached 6.4 million tonnes in 2023, with India and China together supplying roughly two thirds of the world total at 2.3 million and 1.8 million tonnes respectively, followed by Nigeria, Myanmar, Sudan and the United States. Beyond cooking, peanut oil can be converted into biodiesel, used in soap manufacturing through saponification, and included in skincare products for its moisturizing properties; per 100 grams it supplies 884 calories, with 16 percent saturated fat, 57 percent monounsaturated fat and 20 percent polyunsaturated fat.
