Balkenbrij

Balkenbrij, also called karboet, tuet, or pannas, is a traditional Dutch food that shares characteristics with American scrapple. It allowed farmers to use less desirable parts of pork by adding them to a seasoned porridge of groats or flour, and its preparation was historically an important economizing custom for the rural poor. Closely related dishes, called Panhas, Pannas, or Moppkenbrot, are widely known across northwest Germany.
