A baked potato, called a jacket potato in the United Kingdom, is a whole potato baked until tender and served with fillings, toppings or condiments such as butter, cheese, bacon bits, sour cream or chives. The potato is scrubbed clean, dried, and pricked to let steam escape during cooking; a large potato takes roughly one to two hours in a conventional oven at 200 degrees Celsius, while microwaving takes six to twelve minutes but produces a less crisp skin. Common accompaniments in North America include butter, sour cream, chives, shredded cheese and bacon bits, while other traditions add chicken curry, baked beans or tuna. The skin, rich in dietary fiber, is eaten by some and discarded by others.
