Home›Dishes›Main Ingredient›BaconIngredientBaconMeat and Poultry ProductsReference and ClassificationDevelopingBacon is a type of salt cured pork made from various cuts, typically the belly or other less fatty parts of the back, eaten as a breakfast side, a central sandwich ingredient such as in the BLT, or a flavoring agent in other dishes; in Middle English the word originally referred to all pork. It is cured either by wet curing, soaking or injecting the meat in brine, or by dry curing, rubbing it with salt, and may then be dried for weeks or months, smoked, or boiled, with fresh and dried bacon typically cooked before eating, most often by pan frying. The world's first commercial bacon processing plant opened in Calne, Wiltshire, in the 1770s under John Harris, industrializing what had been a domestic practice, and bacon is also used to bard roasts such as venison and pheasant; in the United States, bacon sales climbed 9.5 percent in 2013 to nearly 4 billion dollars.BaconConnectionsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)BaconFilter Results19 entriesDish FamilyAllAmerican Regional Sandwiches (2)American Salads (2)Breakfast Sandwiches (2)European Noodles and Dumplings (1)European Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (4)European Soups (2)European Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (1)North American Breads and Pastries (2)North American Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (3)CuisineAllAmerican Cuisine (5)British Cuisine (3)Canadian Cuisine (3)German Cuisine (1)Irish Cuisine (1)Polish Cuisine (2)Swedish Cuisine (1)Era (Origin Period)All1861 (1)1882 (1)1885 (1)1889 (1)1894 (1)1937 (1)1976 (1)2008 (1)TraditionAllChristmas Feast Traditions (2)Fermentation (1)Salt Curing, Smoking and Drying (1)Format/TypeAllAmerican Regional Sandwiches (2)American Salads (2)Breakfast Sandwiches (2)European Noodles and Dumplings (1)European Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (4)European Soups (2)European Stews, Braises and Sauced Dishes (1)North American Breads and Pastries (2)North American Roasted, Grilled and Fried Dishes (3)CourseAllAppetizer (2)Main Course (1)Side Dish (1)Snack or Street Food (1)Soup (2)Dietary SuitabilityAllContains Dairy or Egg (3)Contains Meat or Poultry (11)Origin RegionAllCanada (2)Europe (1)Germany (1)Ireland (2)Italy (1)Poland (2)Sweden (1)United Kingdom (4)United States (5)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 19Angels on horsebackBaconBacon ExplosionBaconBacon soupBaconBacon, Egg and Cheese SandwichBaconBauernfrühstückBaconBreakfast RollBaconClub SandwichBaconCobb SaladBaconDevils on horsebackBaconDoughnut sandwichBaconFlying JacobBaconFull BreakfastBaconGarlic fingersBaconHangtown fryBaconHawaiian PizzaBaconKopytkaBaconPigs in blanketsBaconSeven-layer saladBaconSour Cereal SoupBaconConnectionsUsed ByAngels on horseback, Dishes Well-attested Source Angels on horseback (Wikipedia)tier 3Bacon Explosion, Dishes Well-attested Source Bacon Explosion (Wikipedia)Bacon soup, Dishes Well-attested Source Bacon soup (Wikipedia)Bacon, Egg and Cheese Sandwich, Dishes Well-attested Source Wikipedia, Bacon, egg and cheese sandwichBauernfrühstück, Dishes Well-attested Source Wikipedia, BauernfrühstückBreakfast Roll, Dishes Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Breakfast rollClub Sandwich, Dishes Well-attested Cobb Salad, Dishes Well-attested Source Cobb salad -
