Coriander

Spices, Herbs and Seasonings

Coriander, or Coriandrum sativum, is an annual herb in the carrot family native to the Mediterranean Basin; its leaves are known in the United States as cilantro and most people perceive them as having a fresh, slightly citrus taste, though due to variation in the gene OR6A2 some people instead perceive a soapy or rotten flavor. All parts of the plant are edible, with the fresh leaves and dried seeds most traditionally used in cooking, and the herb is a staple ingredient across Peruvian, Mexican, Indian and Southeast Asian cuisines.
